Clothing Displays: What do I look for?

Type in “garment rails” or “clothes hangers” into a search engine and you will be faced with a multitude of choices.  There is a huge variety out there from traditional garment rails to space saving three and four way chrome rails, so how do you select the right rail and bulk hangers for your retail space?  Well, whether you are looking for furnish a cloakroom in a theatre or nightclub, organise a large amount of clothing in a dry cleaners or fashion store, or just need some extra hanging space in your bedroom at home;  there are a few simple ways to help narrow it down and ensure that you get the right product for you……

Firstly, and probably most importantly, you should ask yourself “what garments will I hang on there?

Children’s clothing perhaps? Ladies clothes? Or do you specialise in Wedding Gowns, Gents Tailoring, Kilts or fancy dress clothes?   The answer will have a huge impact on choosing the most suitable rails and hangers.  Many items may be quite heavy therefore look for special reinforced rails designed to take the load. Wooden hangers are robust and help to distribute the weight, whilst adding that ‘touch of class’ to your display.  Children’s clothing is smaller and more lightweight; therefore you may want to consider a smaller display rail, perhaps something like a two, three or four-way rail which has extra support in the feet.  Children’s clothing will require smaller hangers, and accessories will require specialised hangers, e.g. clip hangers.

Next you should think about the available space and whether you need mobility from your rails?  It is certainly a lot easier to manoeuvre a loaded rail that has castors fitted.  A three or four way chrome display rail will maximise hanging space in the centre of your floor space and enable you to hang related or matching items on the same rail.  Perhaps you might want to make a feature rail, for perhaps special offers or to draw your customers attention to a particular fashion, a spiral rail is an excellent choice in this instance.

Bare in mind that some Display Rails and Garment Rails can be adapted or extended.  You can add a middle rail to straight garment rails to maximise the hanging space.  You can also add height extensions for those long dresses!  Display rails can have straight arms, sloping arms and even a combination of both!   Balled arms and Notched arms have the same purpose of preventing garments sliding down and gathering at the bottom of a sloped arm.

Moving on, you need to give some thought to the finish of the rail and your hangers.  Most display rails are chrome, giving a stylish and attractive display.  Black rails are easier to keep clean, and you don’t have to worry so much about dirty fingerprints!    Wooden clothes hangers are stylish, robust and can enhance your display whilst padded hangers are great for those delicate or designer items.  Shaped hangers will make jackets look fantastic.  I’m sure all of us have gone clothes shopping and seen garments on the floor, having slipped off their hangers; non-slip hangers will minimise this.  Plastic hangers are lightweight, inexpensive and versatile.

By following this advice you should have now simplified your choice and narrowed your search down to a few relevant items.  If you still require help, we are always here (or nearly always!)  Our rails are flat packed for your convenience and are generally very easy to assemble.
