A hot topic of discussion in office in recent weeks has been cakes; Cream cakes, fruit buns, bread making…you name it, we chatted about it and how we all love cake! We all agreed that the aroma of freshly baked bread made our mouths water. It got me thinking about display units for bakery; is it better to have slatted or solid shelves, does it even matter? What really shows off bread and cakes …..?
Bread and cakes look much more attractive on a good quality, purpose built wooden display unit. Slatted shelves allow ventilation so that those warm (and very yummy) freshly bakes loaves can be displayed, giving off that wonderfully persuasive aroma, leaving your customers with no doubt that they want to buy a loaf to go along with some tasty cheese! Solid shelves are, of course, best for displaying those scrumptious cakes and croissants. Let’s not forget long French sticks and baguettes either, some too long for shelves therefore specially designed baskets are needed to prevent breakage and make them easily accessible for customers.
To enhance your display, consider using a mirror along the top or back of your unit. Not only does this make your baked items highly visible, it adds light and gives the impression of quantity as well as quality. Lighting will also enhance the display, and you can even combine the two.
After some coffee and cake (cream cake, and very nice it was too!), we put our thinking caps on.
