Modular Retail Shop Shelving Installation Instructions

Modular Retail Shop Shelving Installation Instructions

Modular retail shop shelving is brilliant! No, seriously…it is! Not only is it a really sturdy, economical retail display system, it is also easy to install, and looks pretty great too! We particularly like it because it can be combined with slatwall panels (our other passion here at Crown Display…) by using special clips to attach a slatwall panel between two uprights, offering the benefits of both display systems…

Once you’ve decided upon the width (various widths available) of shelving you require – and the number of shelves, of course, you can order shop shelving in the classic Jura White, or stylish Silver finish. Then, the shelving will be delivered to you (usually the next day if you order from Crown Display) in boxes, sorted into the different components for installation.

Although much easier to construct with two people, even one, average-sized individual (male or female), with practically no technical capability, following the instructions below, can put up modular shop shelves on their own… and yes, we have tested this fact using our own staff…

So, as all good self-installation instructions state, start by ensuring you’ve got all the pieces laid out in front of you…and that you know what each piece is! Then, if you’re putting together a gondola unit, insert the uprights into the base legs to make a T-shape. If you’re making standard  wall shelves, make an L-shape with them – for both ends of the shelving (i.e. stick the long metal poles with holes in into the flat, solid pieces with feet on…)

This is the part that’s much easier with two people – but still possible with one: place and hold the two uprights the appropriate distance apart (i.e. depends on the width of your ordered shelving) and then clip a back panel into the inside slots of both uprights, right at the bottom of the uprights so the bottom is level with the base legs. Make sure the back panel has been clipped in so it is level on both sides (not one up one down). Now your shelving should be freestanding, and you can use the adjustable feet to ensure the whole unit is level.

The kick panel fits across the front of the shelves, at the base, clipping into slots in the base legs. This gives extra stability and a more attractive finish to your display.

With the kick panel and lowest back panel in place, you can now add the base shelf. This will clip on easily to the base legs (all the other shelves require brackets). Once the base shelf is on, you can add the rest of the back panels – ending with the highest. Once all the back panels are fitted, you are ready to add your shelves!

First position the brackets – this may be a case of trial and error, with regard to optimising your shelving heights, but the brackets can easily be changed (from the inside slot on the upright) – and can be placed either horizontally or tilted – depending on what kind of product you’re looking to display. Once you have brackets in place, simply lower a shelf onto them, so that the edge of the shelf fits neatly and securely over the edge of the 3 hook brackets. This should give you a durable flat (or tilted!) surface. As mentioned, you can adjust the heights at which the brackets (and therefore shelves) are placed, to give you the perfect shelf space.

Repeat the above steps for any other shop shelving units, or attach them all together for a continuous run of shelves along one wall. If you have a continuous run of shelving, it is even more essential that your back panels and brackets are attached into the inner slots on your uprights – or you’ll run out of space to attach shelves to!

As finishing touches, you can then add in your shelf ticket strips, risers and dividers – and there you go – job done! Stock them all up and watch the customers flock to your display!
