I write many blogs on shopfitting, shop shelving, slatwall panels and so on, and recently I spent a day in our warehouse and told you all about that. Delivery of slatwall and shelving can be an expensive job and, being from Scotland myself, I often wondered why some hauliers charged so much to deliver to some areas of Scotland. I come from a small town on the East Coast of Scotland, just north of Edinburgh and although I’ve visited many places in Scotland there is still much of the country I have not yet seen.
I’ve had an eventful weekend and had the pleasure of a wedding held in Kames, Kyles of Bute (West Coast of Scotland). It was a beautiful wedding in an amazing location, and well worth the travel north from Bristol.
Whilst there I visited the local village store, Duncan’s; it was very well stocked to supply the locals with everything from dog food, bread and beans to meat, milk and vegetables. Much of the fresh produce was sourced locally. It was equally well equipped in terms of shop equipment, with a bespoke counter, refrigeration, a small section of slatwall and modular shop shelving. I should probably mention that the village contained a hotel, Duncan’s and a post office (as far as I discovered).
Have a look on the map where this tiny place is, not too far from Glasgow. Get to Glasgow, turn left, hop on the ferry to Dunoon and it’s a short drive there, yes? Err, not really, and you don’t get to see the most amazing scenery this part of the country has to offer. I took the long way round (not much longer in terms of travel time) by driving north past Loch Lomond, around the Rest and Be Thankful, past Loch Long and Lock Fyne and onto the Kyles of Bute, only a 60 mile drive which took me over 2 hours.
